Sewing Lessons

ome along and learn to sew or develop your existing dressmaking skills. These lessons are suitable from the complete beginner to anyone with some sewing skills. You will learn all the basic skills e.g. threading a sewing machine, winding a bobbin, fabric layout, reading a commercial pattern, hand stitching and loads more. The sewing lessons includes:- bag making, soft furnishing, clothes making, household accessories, zips and much more. Daytime, evening, weekend, all day and short courses available. All from my studio based in Birmingham.

Make a Fascinator


Whether you are looking to learn a new skill or make one for that special occasion you will enjoy this workshop. Create and make your own fascinator using sinamay, feathers, veiling and other materials. You will learn how to form and sculpt delicate sinamay flowers and trimmings. Then apply them using hand sewing techniques to your sinamay base, hair comb or hair band. This is a one day workshop from 10:00 - 16:00.

Dressmaking skills


Dressmaking lessons that are suitable for the beginner. You will learn all the basic sewing skills including sewing straight seams, cutting skills, pressing skills, inserting zips, taking body measurements, fitting and reading and understanding a commercial pattern. You will have the option to make a garment of your choice with loads of support and guidance. You can book single lessons or a block of lessons.

Beginners sewing lesson - Tote bag Learn how to use a sewing machine and take home a lovely tote bag. If you are new to a sewing machine you’ll learn how to thread it up and how to wind a bobbin. You will then learn how to sew a straight seams, French seams plus cutting and ironing techniques. All materials included plus a pattern so you can create more bags for your friends and family.

Beginner Basic Sewing - cushion


Beginners sewing lesson - cushion with an envelope closing. Learn how to use a sewing machine and take home a lovely tote bag. If you are new to a sewing machine you’ll learn how to thread it up and how to wind a bobbin. You will then learn how to sew a straight seams, cutting and pressing techniques. All materials included plus a pattern so you can create more cushions for your home.

Make Up Bag workshop


Make this very useful little bag. Ideal as a make up bag or just a small carry all bag. Excellent as a follow on from the beginners sewing lesson. Learn how to insert a zip to give a professional look. You will need some basic sewing skills.

Bag Making workshop


Make a series of bags starting with a lined shopping tote bag. Developing your skills even further with a zipped make up bag, a messenger style bag, a handbag and making a kiss lock metal frame bag. You will learn about adding piping, when to add boning, embellishing your bag, how to add a magnetic clasp.

Sewing introduction for beginners


If you are not sure about sewing this is the class for you. You will learn how to thread up a sewing machine. How to sew straight seam, a curve seam and tips on control. How to chose a sewing pattern and fabric.

"A-line" Skirt


Make a simple A-line skirt in this two day workshop. You’ll be using a commercial pattern and will learn how to adapt it to get that perfect fit. This class is a great starting point in making your own clothes. You’ll learn how to take your measurements, read a commercial pattern, layout and cut your fabric, make a toile of your garment, make adjustments then make one in your own material. This lesson will be delivered in 2 parts. You will need to bring your own material. Advice on fabrics and pattern will be given with booking confirmation Time - 10:00 - 14:00 per day.

Fabric Flower Brooches


Make fabric flowers - petals, rosettes then turn them into brooches. They can also be used to embellish garments, bags, hats etc. Ideal for the beginner. You will make a variety of flowers using a sewing machine and hand sewing.
